There is splendid walking and hiking to be had in the surrounding hills.

In the summer there are regular food and wine festivals in Vellano and the surrounding villages.

The ski resort of Abetone is an hours drive away, this is also a hiking resort in the summer months.
Vellano is a medieval village situated in the foothills of the Appenine Mountains, north of Pescia an hour from both Florence and Pisa.

The village has a restaurant, bar, pizzeria, bakery with fresh bread twice a day, a grocery shop and a post office.
